Pilot Arts Access Guide Launch
In July 2004, the Hampshire Arts Access Forum (HAAF)
was awarded a Community Fellowship grant (made possible by the
Higher Education Active Community Fund) from the University
of Southampton.
This funding has enabled HAAF participants to pilot a Hampshire
Arts Access Guide for disabled and culturally diverse audiences.
Supported by five University of Southampton student volunteers,
the guide has been developed and supported by community groups
and organisations.
In consultation with representatives of the diverse communities
living in Southampton, the John Hansard Gallery recently developed
a detailed Access Policy to inform on both,
it's recent refurbishment and on-going development, and the
products, services and programme of activities it offers to
the public. The consultation process is on-going, directed via
our Access Committee which meets annually to
discuss ways in which the John Hansard Gallery can enhance its
accessibility to all.
Please click here to visit
the HAAF website.

the Gallery towards the front entrance.

addressing access needs
The John Hansard Gallery welcomes the opportunity
to learn of ways in which its facilities can be developed to
address your access needs. If you would like to discuss your
needs, contribute to the Gallery's Access Forum (which meets
twice yearly), arrange an orientation tour of the gallery or
suggest ways in which we could improve our facilities to better
meet your needs and those of others you care for, our Access
Officer, Ronda Gowland, would be delighted to hear from you.
She can be contacted on +44 (0)23 8059 2160 or r.gowland@hansardgallery.org.uk
group visits
Group visits are warmly welcomed and strongly
supported by the Gallery. If group leaders seek to encourage
discussion and interpretation of the exhibitions amongst their
groups, they may choose to visit independently or book a tailor-made
exhibition tour with a member of the Education Department.
To enable us to assist you, please advise the Education Department
education@hansardgallery.org.uk
of your group’s needs.
