The Winchester Gallery

The Winchester Gallery is part of Winchester School of Art. It presents a programme of temporary exhibitions of professional contemporary visual art including craft, as well as School of Art degree shows.

 

The programme runs throughout the year, except for the month of August, when the gallery is normally closed. The gallery is usually closed for approximately one week between exhibitions. Please ring 01962 852 500 to confirm exhibition dates.

 

The gallery also presents a programme of off-site projects in venues across the South East.

 

The Winchester Gallery is funded by Arts Council England, South East, the University of Southampton and Hampshire County Council.

Location

 

The Winchester Gallery is part of Winchester School of Art and is situated on the west side of campus, opposite Reception. The Winchester Gallery is on the ground floor at street level.

 

Access by car from North Walls, then left into Park Avenue.

Parking

 

Parking for disabled visitors is available in designated bays next to Reception, on the east side.

Parking for non-disabled visitors is subject to University restrictions. Drivers are advised to use public car parks in the city centre, if campus parking is not available.

Access

 

From the parking bays to the pavement and a lowered kerb (3cms). Cross Park Avenue to another lowered kerb (5cms). A path with a gradual gradient leads to the swing doors of the West side building. Once through these doors, the door of The Winchester Gallery is straight ahead.

Public Transport

 

For visitors using local buses which go down North Walls, there is a bus stop on North Walls. Once alighting from the bus, continue down North Walls then turn left at Park Avenue.

 

The Winchester Gallery is about 100 metres along Park Avenue on the left. For visitors using local buses which stop at the station, there is about a ten minute walk from there along Upper Brook Street into Park Avenue.

 

National Express buses stop at the King Alfred statue. The Winchester Gallery is about a ten minute walk from there along Upper Brook Street into Park Avenue.

 

Trains leave London Waterloo for Winchester hourly. The journey takes from 50 minutes to an hour. It is a ten minute walk downhill to North Walls and then into Park Avenue.

 

Accessible Toilets

 

Accessible toilets for wheelchair users are on ground floor level about 20 metres from the door of The Winchester Gallery.

 

Guide Dogs

 

Guide Dogs and Hearing Dogs for the Deaf are welcome.

 

 

Babies / Children

 

Children of all ages who are accompanied by an adult are very welcome in The Winchester Gallery. Baby changing facilities, which have disabled access, are available on the East side of the campus.

 

 

Group Visits

 

Groups of any age and ability are welcome at The Winchester Gallery, for talks and workshops as well as for informal visits. Please contact any member of staff to arrange a visit.
