How Accessible is the Building?
The theatre has six levels: Stalls, Foyer (Entrance Lobby), mid Circle, Rear Circle & Empire Suite, Wessex Suite,
Balcony. All seating areas are accessed by steps except the back rows. The foyer is accessible by two steps. A ramp gives access to the rear of the Stalls. Work to make the ramp less steep will commence in 2005.
A lift gives access from the rear stalls to all levels except the Balcony. There is level access from the lift to the street.
Some signage is clear and accessible; improvements to the rest are being implemented in 2004-5. The current lighting within the building is due to be changed in 2005 to improve visual accessibility.
All stairs within the building have contrasted edges. All doors open outwards and are wide enough for a wheelchair user. All doors on level access routes have push button motorised opening. There are no glass doors.
There are 20 wheelchairs spaces. In the Circle, there are 4 spaces integrated into the back row seating. In the Stalls, there are 16 spaces of which 8 are integrated into the back row seating. The seat at each end of the back row has a moveable arm to facilitate transfer from a wheelchair. By mid-2005, we plan to introduce further wheelchair spaces near the front of the stalls for patrons in wheelchairs who are also visually impaired.
Ticket Sales
There are two ticket counters. The one at The Mayflower offers a loop system but is not wheelchair accessible. The one at WestQuay shopping centre is wheelchair accessible and offers a low counter as well as a loop system.
