exhibiting at the John Hansard Gallery

The John Hansard Gallery’s exhibition programme is devised and confirmed by the Gallery’s curatorial team up to two years in advance and is the product of rigorous ongoing research. Exhibitions are selected on the extent to which they compliment the Gallery’s mission and exhibition policy.

If you wish to propose an exhibition you should read and follow the guidelines below.

proposing an exhibition

If you feel that your work is well positioned to help fulfil the Gallery’s mission and is in keeping with its exhibitions policy, you should submit your exhibition proposal, portfolio and curriculum vitae for consideration by the curatorial team. This should be sent marked for the attention of the Director to John Hansard Gallery, University of Southampton, Highfield, Southampton, SO17 1BJ. You should also include a stamped addressed envelope for the return of your portfolio. If you require your portfolio to be returned by a particular date, please specify this in your covering letter.

what to include

Your proposal should identify and provide a rationale for the exhibition concept or theme, the works and artists you would like to include and details of intended project funding applications and exhibition publication plans.

notifying you of the outcome

Given that the programme is developed so far in advance, you should allow the curatorial team several months to consider your proposal. If your proposal has been successful, the Curatorial team will contact you directly.
