| World Premiere Performance of "ROOM"
by Southampton Composer Benjamin Mawson
Monday 12 December , 6-7pm / Free / No booking required
“Room” is an ambitious new composition by Benjamin Mawson, composer and virtual performance developer, and Postgraduate Research Student in Music at the University of Southampton.
Taking the premise of Alvin Lucier's iconic 1969 sound work "I am sitting in a room" the composer turns the sounds of his speaking voice into instruments of a virtual orchestra in the digital studio.
Constructed in layers that interweave and develop over time and throughout the space in which they are heard, each audition is unique as the listener moves around within the soundscape. Firmly connected to history and memory, this music examines the relations between the remembered, learned and imagined, as fleeting glimpses of continually shifting soundworlds encircle each other.

Following the astounding Bang the Bore X: Zone of Alienation in conjunction with the exhibition Jane and Louise Wilson, Bang the Bore's latest experimental music event, Psychobabble, has been developed in conjunction with Terry Smith: Parallax. The evening will see little in the
way of instruments; instead, it will foreground
a variety of approaches to singing and
vocalisation. In the words of bangthebore:
"Smith's art uses very few objects and frequently features the human voice; accordingly, Psychobabble will use very little in the way of musical instruments and will foreground a variety of approaches to singing and vocalisation. And to make up for our last event Zone of Alienation, which featured only three performances, this time we're bursting at the seams with eight acts packed into a mere three hours...
