Relocation to Studio 144

16 January 2017

As of Monday 16 January 2017, John Hansard Gallery at Highfield Campus will be closed while we prepare for our relocation to Studio 144.

Opening in Spring, John Hansard Gallery and its Studio 144 partners, NST, Nuffield Southampton Theatres and City Eye will bring the very best in internationally acclaimed artistic experiences to the centre of Southampton, as well as developing and projecting local and regional talent on a national and international stage. The new John Hansard Gallery will continue to be a ‘making space’ open to all, producing and commissioning new, innovative and pioneering work that receives international acclaim. John Hansard Gallery’s new home will bring outstanding cultural experiences, opportunities and economic benefits to the whole of Southampton on a larger scale than ever before, unlocking the creative potential of the city.

Studio 144 will provide a new creative centre for the development of advanced creative skills, including work-based training for local communities. It will be a hub and meeting place for the creative community of Southampton, as well as the student population from its two universities – University of Southampton and Southampton Solent University – as well as tourists and all residents of Southampton, the region and beyond.
The Gallery’s relocation will also create a visual arts hub of national significance, with Studio 144 in close proximity Southampton City Art Gallery, SeaCity Museum, Solent Showcase Gallery and Mayflower Theatre, as well as grass roots organisations such as Art House Cafe and Mettricks.
We will be unveiling information on our website and social media over the coming weeks – we can't wait to open our new chapter in the city centre and show you our new space!
