We work with a range of organisations across the local and regional community to provide greater access to contemporary art, regardless of social background. This has ranged from artist residencies in community settings to partnerships with local schools and, most significantly, work with socially excluded young people.
In recent years the gallery has also developed an outstanding track record of supporting socially excluded young people to gain literacy and numeracy skills, develop creativity and build confidence through the Arts Award scheme. This work, delivered in partnership with organisations such as Wessex Youth Offending Team, is always developed through engagement with Gallery exhibitions. John Hansard Gallery was the first arts organisation in Hampshire to offer the Gold award, the first recipient of which was Carl Morgan, who first encountered the Gallery as part of an Intensive Supervision and Surveillance Programme in 2008.
Details of current community activities, alongside an archive of past projects will be published here soon. If you would like to find out more then please contact our Education Department at firstname.lastname@example.org or 023 8059 2160.
