Temporary Closure of Salisbury Road
A section of Salisbury Road will
be closed on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th December 2007
to enable the safe dismantling of the western tower crane
on the Mountbatten site. There will be no interruption
to the Unilink bus service, or loss of access to the car
parks which open up directly off Salisbury Road (Gower,
Upper and Lower Nuffield, and Visitor's car parks). However
Salisbury Road will not be usable as a vehicular through
route on these dates. Alternative access to the John Hansard
Gallery is via Chamberlain Road.
Salisbury road
will be closed between the Bus Lane entrance to the upper
Nuffield car park and the western access road by Building
39 (nearest the Common) to allow the safe siting of the
large, 500 tonne capacity mobile crane, which is needed
to get the necessary lifting and reach capacity for the
removal of all of the tower crane components. The size
of the mobile crane means that it will take up the full
width of the road. The contractors apologise for this
inconvenience which is unavoidable and closure and diversion
signs will be erected early on Monday morning.
Depending on the final siting of the
crane, it may also be necessary to divert pedestrian access
from the Common to Salisbury Road. This will be kept under
review by the managing contractor, Bovis Lend Lease, and
all necessary precautions and signage will be dealt with
by them as appropriate.
The current spell of bad weather
is unlikely to postpone the crane removal, but if anything
changes we will let you know immediately.
