As a result of the award, Panacea will
become a major collaborative project between the artists, Michael
Pinsky, Neil Bromwich and Zoë Walker, scientific researchers
and the gallery. The funding will result in the commissioning
of new works, a website, educational events, a documentary
film, a publication and more. The project will expand over
the next two years, during which time it will also tour to
Le Parvis, France, Cornerhouse, Manchester and a London venue,
following a National Touring grant of £29,000 from Arts
Council England.
The Wellcome Trust award is fantastic news for the John
Hansard Gallery, which will take on the overall management and administration
of the project. For many years, the gallery has held an international
track record in organising innovative and high quality exhibitions
of contemporary art. This announcement follows closely the
news that the gallery will be a part of ‘Southampton’s
New Arts Complex’ in Southampton city centre, thanks
to grants of over £5m awarded to the city by Arts
Council England.
Panacea has been awarded a Wellcome
Trust Sciart Production Award. More information about this type of award is available
on the Wellcome Trust website.
