Gallery GO
The John Hansard Gallery spearheaded the development of Gallery
GO, the Hampshire based audience development project
for contemporary visual art funded
by the National Lottery through the Arts for Everyone scheme.
project aims
Gallery GO aims, not
only to introduce new audiences to contemporary visual arts,
but also to make the experience of those currently attending
gallery exhibitions more enjoyable.
members and activities
Focusing on exhibitions at six leading Hampshire Galleries:
ArtSway, Aspex
Gallery, John Hansard Gallery, Southampton
City Art Gallery and Winchester
Gallery, Gallery GO
is developing a series of intriguing and stimulating talks and
activities for people interested in learning more about contemporary
art.
Introductory talks and tours provide newcomers
with a basic overview of specific exhibitions
and useful background information. For those
who have already developed their interest in contemporary art,
there is an opportunity to learn more through
gallery talks that look, in-depth, at a particular
artist or exhibition. Visitors are able to get involved in more
active debates on issues surrounding contemporary
visual arts through the Critical Circles series
of events. Attendance at some events is by invitation only while
other events are open to a wider public.
project funding
Gallery GO received funding from the National Lottery’s
‘New Audiences Fund’ and is supported by
Portsmouth City Council, Hampshire County Council, Southampton
City Council, Winchester City Council and New
Forest District Council.
